JOB PURPOSE

Perform routine and specialized custodial duties to ensure Sheriff’s Office facilities are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and secure condition. The Janitor supports daily operations by maintaining cleanliness in offices, common areas, restrooms, and other designated areas while complying with Sheriff’s Office policies and security procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Janitor performs custodial and maintenance-related duties, including but not limited to:

• Clean and sanitize offices, hallways, restrooms, breakrooms, and common areas

• Empty trash and recycling and dispose of waste properly

• Vacuum, sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors

• Clean windows, glass surfaces, and fixtures

• Replenish restroom and facility supplies

• Properly handle, store, and use cleaning chemicals and equipment

• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or security concerns to supervisors

• Follow established cleaning schedules and respond to special requests

• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in proper working condition

• Work in occupied areas while minimizing disruption to staff and operations

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Strong attention to detail

• Basic knowledge of custodial methods, equipment, and cleaning products

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

• Dependable, responsible, and safety-conscious

• Respectful of confidential and restricted areas

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred but not required

• Experience in government, law enforcement, or secure facilities is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and reach

• Frequent use of hands for cleaning, lifting, and operating equipment

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

• Ability to push or pull carts and cleaning equipment

• Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to distinguish colors and details

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work is performed within Sheriff’s Office facilities, including secured areas

• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and supplies

• Noise levels are generally moderate
